How to Get Top Dollar for Your Home
Presented by John Carey
-
Curb Appeal - Take a critical look at the front of your home.
Does the trim need painting? Is the lawn neatly cut? Do the trees
and shrubs need trimming? Does your home have curb appeal?
-
Repairs - Buyers are quick to notice anything that needs repair.
Check for broken fences, loose roof tiles, cracked windows, drippy
faucets, chipped paint, light fixtures not working or loose wallpaper.
-
Paint - You can't find a better investment than a few cans of
paint and putty. When painting the interior, keep the colors light and
neutral.
-
The Grounds - A clean, neat and well-trimmed yard will pay
dividends when the buyers sit down to write an offer on your home.
A "one time clean up" by a gardener can more than pay for itself.
-
Light, Bright, and Open - Remove anything that may make your home
seem cluttered. Check the closets, patio and garage, and dispose of all
unneeded items. Perhaps rent a storage unit for a couple of weeks while
your home is on the market.
-
Carpet - Keep your carpets vacuumed. Arrange a steam cleaning if
needed.
-
Windows - Keep the windows clean and free of clutter.
-
Work Tools - Hide or neatly arrange anything that looks like
work such as lawnmowers, hoses, tools, and vacuum cleaners. Accent
everything that looks like fun such as the patio, pool or spa.
